Some very impressive examples of writing resulted when we wrote a poem that was a metaphor for our family.
My threesome family is a thriving tree.
Mum is the boss, the tall stable trunk that makes all the decisions
Jessica, my sister is the scattered emerald leaves, always eavesdropping on other conversations.
And I am the blooming blossoms,the missing puzzle piece and the last decoration for a picturesque panorama.

My family meanders in a shoe
Dad is the sturdy, fading leather, strong but still breakable.
Mum is the wooden heel, taking on all the stress, the last one to surrender.
Fraser is the unprotected fabric, easy to get dirty and very hard to clean.
Mable the cat is the tongue, floppy and usually falling out.
And I am the shoelace tying everything into place.

My family lives in a park
Mum is the grass, everywhere at once, ready to help.
Dad is the oak tree sheltering us all, but sometimes he gets blown over.
Angus is the pesky weed you just can't get rid of.
And I am the park ranger the brains of it all.
Olwyn
My family lives out at the park.
My dad is the bush, that surrounds us all...unafraid.
My mum is the field, who is soft and gentle.
My sisters are the swings, with the mind power to go higher and higher, no one can stop them.
My brother is the slide, who is smooth and flexible.
And I, I am the oak tree who holds my family together, away from fear.

Time for Term 3
In the last 3 weeks of term 2 we welcomed two new pupils to the room 28 family. Kaitlyn who arrived from Hamilton and Olwyn who returned from his time overseas. We know you will soon become accustomed to the routines within the room and we look forward to getting to know you better as the year continues.
As with every term we have lots planned and yesterday saw the beginning of some changes to our Home Learning programme.
What is different?
The children writing their thoughts and opinions about their nightly reading. As we shared this orally today it was pleasing to hear just how the children are reflecting on what they have read. I do hope the five children who did not begin this last night have done so tonight!
The children are now being encouraged to do all their writing (except for Mathematics) in blue pen. As they do this an increased effort to be accurate and neat will be important.
Our Webb Ellis Cup visit will be added shortly.

Friday 6 May
This day will go down in our memories as a day we will remember for a long time!
Being with 600 children in our school assembly being entertained by Room 22 was memorable enough but what was to happen next?...Helicopters whirring overhead and a series of screaming sirens heading down Manukau Road had us all wondering.
We had practised lock down drill but we now found ourselves actually experiencing an actual lock down. Our Principal Linley Bruce made the decision that we should remain in the assembly hall to ensure we stayed safe.
What was to follow was a long impromptu assembly, songs and more songs, stories and...
While we were in the hall our parents were gathering and waiting to collect us. Room 1, 2 and 3 soon had many 'old pupils'. 3 o'clock came and went and we stayed in the hall.
Some time later Mrs Bruce announced we were able to leave school. Our parents collected us and we left through the Manukau Road exit, leaving our belongings behind in our rooms.
Those of us who watched the news on either TV 1 or TV 3 saw a member of our Board of Trustees being interviewed as well as one of our pupils.
What will you remember about this day?

Term 2
Just as 11 weeks might have whisked past so did the 2 weeks of school holidays.
As usual we have lots of exciting things planned - more will be revealed after Tuesday when the teachers have had a special meeting to confirm the details of what is to happen.
Also, as our inquiry focus this term is based round The Arts each Thursday in the first four weeks will be called a Pure Day when the children spend the whole day learning visual art, drama, dance and Maori Legends in rotation.
Sport will be on a Tuesday afternoon and you will work on the KRIC programme on a Friday.
More to come - tune in regularly so you can discuss what is happening with your parents.
